The short version
The game has no accounts, no analytics and no advertising, and it does not connect to the internet. Nothing you do in it is sent to us or to anyone else.
Your desktop
When it starts, and when you capture a picture with F2, the game takes a picture of your screen to play on. That picture is held in memory while you play and is never saved to disk or sent anywhere.
Faces
Face detection and recognition run on your computer. When you photograph someone with the in-game Camera and name them, the game keeps, in its own data folder:
- a small picture of their face (256 × 256 pixels);
- the name and the kind of person you gave them;
- face fingerprints (lists of numbers the game uses to recognise them again): up to 20, one per photo, and their average;
- how often their face has been destroyed.
Forget one person by holding the right mouse button on them with the Camera, or everyone with Settings → Reset Progress → Remembered faces.
Your music
The game can show what your music app is playing (title, artist, album) and play, pause or skip it with F7, F8 and F9. It asks your computer for this locally and never keeps or sends it.
What else is kept
Your settings, your challenge records (times, ranks and what you have unlocked) and the game's log files, in the same data folder. They never leave your computer.
The data folder is %APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\Desktop Destruction on Windows and ~/.local/share/godot/app_userdata/Desktop Destruction on Linux. Deleting it removes everything the game has kept. (Early versions were called Desktop Doodler: if a Desktop Doodler folder is there too, the game copies it into the new one once, so delete it as well.)
Steam
If you get the game on Steam, Valve's Steam client handles your account and purchases under Valve's privacy policy.
Children
The game collects nothing from anyone, children included.
